Our First Emergent Bible Study – The Epistle of James
Our first movement into ‘Emergent’ Bible study begins with the Epistle of James. There’s a number of reasons that James is a good place to start, but let me share just a few of them. First, for those churches who use (or a variant of) the Revised Common Lectionary, James is making his triennial visit and so the words of James have been heard recently,
and perhaps even discussed in our own churches and communities. Secondly, James does not get much discussion and indeed, has almost always been an uncomfortable text for Christians – this alone would warrant a conversation about what about James is so challenging and what value it has. And last, but not least, James is a very missional text – James makes demands of us as Christians and this call for orthopraxy is very much part of the Emergent conversation.
I hope you’ll join us Thursday, October 8th at 8:30pm EST (try to get here around 8) in our video chat room for what we hope will be an insightful, fun, and provocative conversation.
